vintage keys unlock my heart

I wish my front door opened with a key that looked like one of these found at Laura Mazurek (of Violet Bella’s World)’s Etsy shop:

blog love: before and after

Posted in Blogs, decorating, designer tagged , , at 1:18 pm by Brit

My fantastically talented blogland friend Camila from High-Heeled Foot in the Door, just finished her latest project…her younger sister’s apartment here in NYC.

Her sister is a recent college grad which, as we all know, equals small budget. But even with only $350 to play with, Camila managed to turn this apartment from dormroom drab to big city fab.

Here’s one of the before photos:

pallet daybeds…sigh

Posted in Blogs, decorating, furniture, inspiration tagged at 4:15 pm by Brit

I may have the complete opposite of these, but pallet daybeds make me swoon.

Here’s a great how-to from photographer Ashley Ann:

Materials:

Wood pallets (ours a bit smaller than the standard size)

Palm Sander

80 grit, 200 grit sandpaper

5 large caster wheels

4 hinges

Thick foam for the ‘mattress’ – mine is from a fabric store then covered in a down comforter and soft bedding

The instructions are a simple as can be: Sand the pallets good and smooth. Bolt the two together on the tops and bottoms. Add caster wheels to all 4 corners and one in the very center. The wheels on mine are locked, except for the center one. I used an old door to sit behind it – just because I liked how it looked. Simple enough.

Be sure to check out the gorgeous before and after photos on her blog!

willy wonka and wallpaper

Remember the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory? How fun was that wallpaper that was lickable? “The blueberries taste like blueberries, the strawberries taste like strawberries, the schnozzberries taste like schnozzberries!!!” Not sure if this tale was their inspiration but Flavor Paper‘s Fruit Cocktail collection is filled with scratch and sniff prints: bananas, cherries, tutti-frutti….yum!!

The trio of handscreened wallpaper, designed by Michael Angelo and Flavor Paper, was a huge hit during NY’s Design Week in 2007 and has only gotten bigger since then. Flavor Paper also has tons of other beautiful, metallic prints that may not be good for the tastebuds but are still yummy eye candy. fruits-of-design-maquette

I first heard of Flavor Paper back in ’08, but I had forgotten all about it. So glad that one of my blog crushes, Pink Wallpaper, wrote about them and reminded me! They’ve got such great designs!

flamingo fun

Posted in Blogs, decorating tagged , , , at 3:42 pm by Brit

It’s cold outside. Cold makes me wish it was warm. Warm makes me yearn for someplace tropical. Tropical makes me think of flamingos. Hence, my post.
