louboutin-inspired paint job

Posted in color, decorating, inspiration tagged at 3:11 pm by Brit

A sliver of paint along the door edge is a great way to add a little pop of  accent color.

It’s like the interior version of a pair of Louboutins.

pretty diy jewelry organizing idea

Posted in Apartment Project, decorating, diy at 5:38 pm by Brit

I’m not the only one whose necklaces have an uncanny ability to tangle themselves to the point of no return, right?

I’ve had to throw away jewelry because the knots they managed to create in themselves were beyond repair (RIP cute purple chunky necklace).

Something had to be done.

my jewelry hung nice and neat

Read the rest of my post here.

(I know, slightly cheating, but it’s still my posts, just at a different site! Hey, at least I got a one up finally!)

yellow is happy

Posted in color, decorating, inspiration tagged at 12:42 pm by Brit

Don’t you just think yellow is the happiest color? If colors had personality, yellow would be that overly cheerful-at-all-times (albeit slightly annoying) chick.

Well, it’s super icky outside, so I need a little overly-cheerful-at-all-times pick me up.

This last one, I believe, is from the apartment posted here of Pieces owner, Lee Kleinhelter.

Have a yellow Friday!

currently coveting: rope banisters

Posted in currently coveting, decorating tagged at 12:04 pm by Brit

Rope banisters have recently been catching my eye. I kinda like the simplicity of them, and they’re versatility by having a nautical, modern, or country route.

I love the simplicity of this look:

This banister gets a little lost in the graphic Fornasetti Tema e Variazioni wallpaper from Cole & Son, but I’m intrigued by the contrast:

Thom Felicia (adore him!) added in a heavy rope banister to his stairwell design for the House Beautiful showhouse. I also love how the Sacco runner is off-centered.

The rope paired with the round porthole window give this stairway a subtle nautical theme.

Oh, and happy Friday

holiday wreath variety

Posted in decorating, holidays, inspiration tagged , at 4:21 pm by Brit

If you’re bored with the circular evergreen and holly berries hanging on your front door, try a different route. This festive holiday wreath doesn’t have to be limited to the red-and-green.

blog love: before and after

Posted in Blogs, decorating, designer tagged , , at 1:18 pm by Brit

My fantastically talented blogland friend Camila from High-Heeled Foot in the Door, just finished her latest project…her younger sister’s apartment here in NYC.

Her sister is a recent college grad which, as we all know, equals small budget. But even with only $350 to play with, Camila managed to turn this apartment from dormroom drab to big city fab.

Here’s one of the before photos:

Here’s the after:

scientific style

Posted in decorating, inspiration tagged at 4:21 pm by Brit

Who says learning tools are boring? Painter Sean Scherer renovated this 1840s farmhouse in upstate New York and used items that you’d normally find in a biology class as unique decor items.

Old-fashioned maps and globes hint at his many travels in the foyer while botanical prints play up the mirrored Deco side tables in the guest bedroom.

Vintage diagrams illustrate the mechanics of pulleys and levers as well as the ins and outs of the noggin; A birdcage sculpture by the Brazilian artist Vik Muniz is displayed against walls papered in sheets from a “Birds of New York” folio.

A French zoological diagram of a bat hangs over an antique card catalogue, I can only imagine the natural curiousities that are hidden in there!

breast cancer awareness month

Posted in color, holidays, inspiration, Lovelies tagged at 3:06 pm by Brit

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Though this should be a year-round concern, it’s nice that they officially have one month dedicated to it. To show my support, Design*Champagne style, here are some rooms that are pretty in pink:

pallet daybeds…sigh

Posted in Blogs, decorating, furniture, inspiration tagged at 4:15 pm by Brit

I may have the complete opposite of these, but pallet daybeds make me swoon.

Here’s a great how-to from photographer Ashley Ann:

Materials:

Wood pallets (ours a bit smaller than the standard size)

Palm Sander

80 grit, 200 grit sandpaper

5 large caster wheels

4 hinges

Thick foam for the ‘mattress’ – mine is from a fabric store then covered in a down comforter and soft bedding

The instructions are a simple as can be: Sand the pallets good and smooth. Bolt the two together on the tops and bottoms. Add caster wheels to all 4 corners and one in the very center. The wheels on mine are locked, except for the center one. I used an old door to sit behind it – just because I liked how it looked. Simple enough.

Be sure to check out the gorgeous before and after photos on her blog!

vol-inspired decor

Posted in color, inspiration at 7:00 am by Brit

If you know me in real life, you know I’m a football fan. Actually, fanatic is probably a more appropriate term. I follow the University of Tennessee religiously (along with the Tennessee Titans, but that’s for another day).

Football season has officially started with my Vols beatin the crap out of Western Kentucky last week and getting ready for UCLA this afternoon, who beat them in double OT last year in the first game of the season (completely heart-wrenching).

As much as I love my Vols, their color combo is slightly lacking in aesthetic appeal, but it is doable as seen here:
